This week is all about repetit… oh wait, that was last week on Tuesday Ten: 333, sorry. In a change from the originally planned programming (I will post the Tuesday Ten about Spies and Surveillance – that I’ve now pushed back four times – in the coming weeks, I promise), to link in with other […]
The instrumental is often a rather maligned part of an artist’s repertoire. There was some discussion of what counts as an instrumental. Wiki suggested:
Last week I was looking at weakness, and songs thereof, and this week, it’s the flipside.
About eighteen years ago, while I was still reading Geography at King’s College London, the subject of my dissertation proposal came up.
This year: 170 bands, 57 days-worth of gigs. Five festivals, three countries, eight cities/towns. From venues holding thousands to those holding tens. Due to personal issues and, frankly, being too damned busy for much of the year, I didn’t get to write about many of them aside from the festivals, so writing this list has […]
Week three of the amodelofcontrol.com roundup of 2014, and this is, I guess, the big one. The albums of the year.
Christ, 2014 is passing by in a flash. With Easter so late this year, it has resulted too in Resistanz and Whitby being on back-to-back weekends, which has left a number of us fearing for our livers during April, never mind an attempt to get any sleep. As I write this, the first of those […]
To open each new year, I’ve for some years now posted a rundown of new music coming your way. This year is no exception, but it seems that there is less music coming that I might have expected. But then, I’m probably missing a few things! Anyway – this year, in addition to the full […]
2013 has been a really, really strong year for music.
It’s been a really busy month – hence a relative lack of posting this past month, and no Tuesday Tens since last month’s roundup.
So…I’ve looked at the best gigs, live venues, and gigs at the London Astoria, bands at Infest, bands I’ve *not* seen live…but I’ve never had a look at live albums, somehow, as my girlfriend pointed out last week.
For the last of six different gigs during July – and my last for a few weeks – it was back to the Purple Turtle for the first time in a while, to see the return of the band that I believe are now the finest exponents of synthpop/futurepop anywhere. But first, before Seabound, there […]
A new month, therefore ten new songs you should hear about.
So today marks the last part of my rundown of the decade’s music. Next week will be the usual rundown of the month’s best tracks, and then I’ll be starting at some point after that with a rundown of the 90s in a similar style – after all, this autumn marks twenty years since I […]
While for me the past decade hasn’t been the revelation musically that the 90s were, there was still some amazing material. And here are the top twenty songs of the decade, according to me.
Continuing from last week, it’s time to move onto the third stage of my rundown of the last decade. Also, as this autumn marks twenty years of my being “into” alternative music, after this decade’s rundown there will be a similar one to follow for the 90s (for which the “draft” list we pulled together […]
Another month – so it's time again for my tracks of the month.
Last night was an interesting gig. The first of the long list of upcoming gigs I am intending on attending, and it was a cracking way to start.
We are finally in the week preceding Infest, so it is perhaps only right for an Infest-based Tuesday Ten. Not just ten artists, though – this is something of a ramble of the good and the bad from my seven Infests so far – I haven’t mentioned all of the bands over that time, but […]
My top ten albums of 2006.
