This week, on part three, I turn my attention to the best albums of the year. I seem to say it every year, but really – 2015 has been an extraordinary year for alternative music, you’ve just got to have been looking in the right places to find some of it. Not all of it […]
Another month, another round-up of the various new music that has come my way recently.
The start of a new year, so it is time for my usual round-up of music coming our way soon (here is last years). Sources are, as usual, a selection of direct band and label sources and press reports, and are believed correct at the time of writing.
I was asked some time ago to DJ this six-band line-up at Electrowerkz (I was the seventh of the Dark7, of course). Thanks to the organisers, the bands, and the punters.
For the latest interview here on amodelofcontrol.com, we’ve caught up with Eric Gottesman of Everything Goes Cold (and quite a few other bands, which he’ll explain about shortly) over e-mail, to talk about his new album, his old album, his old bands and a whole lot else.
A second visit to Kerosene in Leeds.
This week marks ten years since I registered amodelofcontrol.com, and got to work promoting my music writing (the first permanent home I’d given it), and then over the coming months also promoting my then nascent DJing (tcf began in March 2004). I first began writing about music back at University in 1996, and my writing […]
To open each new year, I’ve for some years now posted a rundown of new music coming your way. This year is no exception, but it seems that there is less music coming that I might have expected. But then, I’m probably missing a few things! Anyway – this year, in addition to the full […]
I have something of a love-hate relationship with the whole idea of reissues and compilations. Some are truly worthwhile – reminding listeners of bands that they may have otherwise missed, or introducing them to something wholly new. Others, however, reek of shameless cash-in. I’ve ignored the latter here, and gone for those that were released […]
It’s been a really busy month – hence a relative lack of posting this past month, and no Tuesday Tens since last month’s roundup.
My first time DJing with Terminates Here. Only my sets shown here, full setlist here.
Autonomy came to an end after nine years, and I returned to DJ one more time.
Some fun and games at a party.
A second visit to Departure, a night I always enjoyed a lot.
A second DJ set at Infest, after the first one in 2008, this time on the Saturday night.
Thanks to everyone who turned up on Friday – it really was a brilliant night, despite the odd technical glitch here and there. We hope you all had a wonderful time, and enjoyed yourselves immensely. We’re just making plans for making the next one even better, and will be back soon with news!
After a long period as “resident guest” at Autonomy, this was my last set of that run (I’d return one more time, but more on that later).
The first instance of my first night that I’ve run in London.
During 2011 I bought an awful lot of albums. at least 75, in fact. And so many that some that might have made it in a normal year ended up being missed off this list. So there may well be a “what I overlooked” post at the end of the year, just to ensure that […]
I’m starting this year’s musical roundup a little differently to normal. During 2011, there has been a glut of compilations in the “Industrial” sphere. Some of them have been great, some of them…haven’t. So let’s have a brief look at each of them, and it might give a few pointers to where trends were heading […]
