/Welcome to the Future/129/Livestreams and new release round-up/05-Jun 2020

We keep going amid the lockdown. There are new releases, and still, new music coming through, and buying music right now is the only way we can help. The events listing is still being updated, but obviously, an awful lot is being postponed, cancelled or changed right now.

You can also get it via RSS, on iTunes, on Stitcher, and is also now available on the Google Podcasts App (search “amodelofcontrol”) and Spotify too.

/This Week/New Releases

Bandcamp are again waiving fees today, so do your record shopping today.

Actually released a day or two earlier in the end – and for free download as well as purchase (physical copies aren’t coming until September) – Run The Jewels have at last released their much-anticipated RTJ4, and it’s great. A leaner, meaner album than RTJ3, it also perfectly reflects the times it has been released in. It is an angry album with a lot to say, and a lot to listen to, and well worth picking up.

Also out today: Passenger S from the, by this site, much-loved Metroland has released their debut solo album today, under the moniker 808 DOT POP, called The Colour Temperature, and Slighter has released a new single today, Planned Obsolescence. Anton from Bleak – under the solo moniker Howlin’ Anton Bleak – has released a new album recently, too: Stranger Country.

/This Week/Upcoming Releases

I recently awarded Seeming album of the decade for the still astonishing SOL, and the follow-up has been announced overnight. The new album, out 21-August, is The Birdwatcher’s Guide to Atrocity, and among other things features the first on-record vocal performance by Bill Drummond (!!) in over two decades. You can hear the first single Go Small on the Bandcamp page now.

Popping up out of nowhere in my e-mail this morning was Lesley Rankine, who has chosen to mark the upcoming 25th anniversary of the release of her remarkable solo debut Salt Peter in an interesting way. That album was reputedly the first to be fully created and recorded using a laptop, and rather than just a straight re-issue, she is re-recording and re-imagining the songs from it over the rest of this year – the first is available today: The Whole Is Equal To The Sum Of It’s Parts.

Dawn of Ashes release The Antinomian on 10-Jul, and while some of their recent material has lost me a bit, this seems much more in my wheelhouse. You can listen to new single Pawns of the Wretched now, and it’s at least partially a throwback to classic electro-industrial.

Obviously things have rather changed right now, and I’m updating events as they are postponed or cancelled, and also including relevant Livestreams as they are announced.

This weekly listing has now seen a significant overhaul, and has moved over to a Shareable calendar format that is embedded below. You can add it to your own calendar views if you wish (GCal link, iCal link), and then you will get dynamic updates as I get them. Otherwise see the embedded calendar below.

If you have updates, relevant events for me, or want to tell me about something else, use the contact details above.
