Friday, the end of another hectic week, and I finally have a weekend of almost total downtime – so let’s look at things to distract us, either by way of new music or events to consider. This is the usual amodelofcontrol.com round-up, of new music coming your way this week and soon, as well as a look at the events and gigs in the future, and finally nods to any other notable news that affects artists and music that I cover here.

/transmission – the amodelofcontrol.com podcast – has returned, continuing the run through of the a-z of industrial, with all episodes thus far are here. The latest episode is /transmission/015, the second part of the letter K. /transmission/016 will follow soon.

/This Week/New Releases

Once again, a bumper set of releases this week.

Firstly, released yesterday unexpectedly was the new album from Chicago-industrialists Cyanotic, and The Trigger Effect is in my opinion their best since at least The Medication Generation in 2010. More about this on /amodelofcontrol to follow soon.

Chelsea Wolfe releases her sixth album Birth of Violence, a more folky, acoustic-based album than the searing power of the last few – but on first listen, no let up of the intensity – while the ever-intriguing Jenny Hval releases The Practice of Love.

One of the more heartening successes this year has been the enthusiastic following of Mongolian rock band The HU, who played a number of well-received shows over the summer (the footage from European festivals was nuts), and are currently doing a lengthy tour of the US, and their (very good) debut album The Gereg is out today. I have to confess that I wasn’t especially taken with lead single Shine, and amid the news that the new Cold album The Things We Can’t Stop – their first in eight years – also includes a cover of Snow Patrol’s Run… Hmm. Interestingly the return of another notable band from the nineties – Korn – has had a much warmer reception in the music press, and it sounds like I need to be giving The Nothing a listen.

Talking of returns, one of the more intriguing acts of the eighties – whose debut The Circle and the Square back in 1986 remains one of my musical touchstones, a wide-eyed, open-minded album that happily took in influences from across the world – Red Box have made another of their sporadic returns with their fourth album Chase The Setting Sun, out today. They play a small-scale album launch show on 24-Sep at Venue 229.

While one notable re-issue is out this week, too – Stereolab’s mighty Dots and Loops is out in an expanded, remastered edition.

/This Week/Upcoming Releases

Tindersticks return with new album No Treasure But Hope on 15-November, the first single being The Amputees, a song that sounds like it is wracked with guilt and sorrow (even by Tindersticks’s standards).

A couple of singles from other upcoming albums that we already knew about were unveiled in the past twenty-four hours, too. Pure Grain Audio have the scoop on the title track from the upcoming KMFDM album PARADISE, and it’s a solid, politically furious song. While deux furieuses have also released the video to the title track from their upcoming second album My War Is Your War.
