Welcome to the Future: 083: Events, gigs and new release round-up 10-May 2019

It’s Friday, therefore time for the usual amodelofcontrol.com round-up of new music coming your way this week and soon, as well as a look at the events and gigs in the future, and finally nods to any other notable news that affects artists and music that I cover here.

transmission – the amodelofcontrol.com podcast – had begun the run through of the a-z of industrial, with all episodes here. The latest episode was released a few months ago (transmission: 012). transmission: 013 will be out as soon as I have the time to rebuild the whole damned thing…

You can also get it via RSS, on iTunes, on Stitcher, and is also now available on the new Google Podcasts App (search “amodelofcontrol”).

If you want to submit anything to be included here? E-mail me (You know what to do with that to make it work, right?), comment/message on Facebook at the amodelofcontrol.com page, and over on Twitter (@amodelofcontrol).

New and Upcoming Releases this week

After a comparative quiet period of late, there’s quite a bit out today – and I’ve got more to say about a number of this week’s releases, that will follow on this site in the coming weeks as time allows.

It has been out digitally for a while, but Covenant’s excellent Fieldworks Exkursion EP has a wider physical release today.

Then there are also the following out today: FIRES returns with All Of My Dreams Are Of This Place, Curse Mackey releases Instant Exorcism, and Meat Beat Manifesto return with Opaque Couché.

I’m not sure if I’d mentioned this previously, but the new EP from Rabbit Junk (Reveal) is out next Wednesday, too, and there is also a new single from Amnestic

A notable new release announcement this week was of the first new Cubanate release (as opposed to a best-of) in two decades, and Kolossus is out in early June. You can hear the new track Missing Persons now on YouTube.

Also coming soon is the second album from industrial punks Syd.31, whose new album Walk Amongst Rebels is released on 24-June.

Other Music News

Not that this is particularly surprising – it would appear that PledgeMusic is going under – but the hit on the various bands affected could well have wider ramifications. In addition, too, what hit to the confidence of the practice of crowdfunding artists will this result in? Clearly there are things that we don’t know (yet) about this carnage, and it would appear that the other platforms – Kickstarter in particular – are better run than this. But the large number of artists that have lost considerable sums of money also stretches to the even larger number of fans who pledged money (and yes, I’m one of them that will lose out).

Direct crowdfunding like this was meant to be the future for independent artists, but the reality for those involved here is that they’ve been fucked over the crowdfunding agents, much as they might have expected to be fucked over by record labels – or streaming platforms. What happens now?
