Welcome to the Future: 071: Events, gigs and new release round-up 15-February 2019

It’s Friday, therefore time for the usual amodelofcontrol.com round-up of new music coming your way this week and soon, as well as a look at the events and gigs in the future, and finally nods to any other notable news that affects artists and music that I cover here.

transmission – the amodelofcontrol.com podcast – had begun the run through of the a-z of industrial, with all episodes here. The latest episode was released a few months ago (transmission: 012). transmission: 013 will be out as soon as I have the time to rebuild the whole damned thing…

You can also get it via RSS, on iTunes, on Stitcher, and is also now available on the new Google Podcasts App (search “amodelofcontrol”).

If you want to submit anything to be included here? E-mail me (You know what to do with that to make it work, right?), comment/message on Facebook at the amodelofcontrol.com page, and over on Twitter (@amodelofcontrol).

New and Upcoming Releases this week

I take one week off from this, and there’s an awful lot to catch up on!

Let’s start with last week’s slew of new releases.

LA Noise-industrial-rockers HEALTH released their fourth album, Vol. 4: SLAVES OF FEAR, and Front Line Assembly released what is apparently their twentieth album in the form of Wake Up The Coma, and expect a review on this site in the coming days (it’s about 75% done).

In more experimental releases from last week, Mercury Rev released a new album that is actually a reworking of an old Bobbie Gentry album – Bobbie Gentry’s The Delta Sweete Revisited. At the other end of the scale entirely, the Blut Aus Nord side-project YERÛŠELEM released their quite extraordinary new album The Sublime.

As well as all that, there are two remix albums that have been released in the past week or two – V▲LH▲LL’s GRIM/MORE, and Metroland (do they ever stop working?!?) with Framed.

This week seems even busier (and there are a number of notable releases next week, too). First up is the new album from Greek extreme metal titans Rotting Christ, whose work is always fascinating for it’s depth. New release The Heretics apparently examines the hypocrisy of religious leaders and what they inspire, and from the first few tracks I’ve heard, it appears to continue their exceptional purple patch of late.

Two other equally long-lived bands also release new albums this week. The Tiger Lillies mark their thirtieth anniversary with The Devil’s Fairground, while My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult – having not long since passed the three decade mark themselves – release The House of Strange Affairs.

Ladytron’s self-titled new album is released physically today, while Dean Garcia’s prolific SPC ECO project releases new album Fifteen, and new Metropolis signing FTR – featured last week on Tuesday Ten: 357 – release Manners today.

There are also a number of notable single releases this week. The much-loved Bitter Ruin return after five years away with new single Caution to the Wind, the ever-intriguing Red Box are back with new single This Is What We Came For, with the new album Chase the Setting Sun to follow. Finally, ACTORS released a new single for Valentine’s Day, Mining For Heart, a cover of the track by The Sound, and Larson / Gottesman (that’s Kurt Larson of Information Society and Eric Gottesman of Everything Goes Cold) have released a new single Deniers that is excellent and will be covered on this site in the fullness of time!

In upcoming releases, the most surprising one to me is the kind-of return of one of my favourite bands at the turn of the millenium – Welsh band Liberty 37, whose label, apparently with the band’s input, are releasing a number of tracks at the beginning of April that would have been part of their (unreleased) third album. Legion is the first track, and look out for more on this band on amodelofcontrol.com, as I co-incidentally already had something in the works on them!

Another welcome return is that of Nikki Telladictorian (ex-Prometheus Burning, long a favourite of this site), who returns at last with solo material very soon.

Much to the distress of my wife, Sunn O))) have announced a new album Life Metal, that was recorded with Steve Albini. The new Chemical Brothers album already known as No Geography, is released on 12-April.

Oh, and Brian Johnson has confirmed he is back recording with AC/DC

Other Music News

The excellent bands ACTORS and Empathy Test are teaming up for a double-headliner tour of the UK in June. Full list of dates.

I meant to mention this a week or two back, this potentially has terrifying precedents. But I’ll bet this would never had happened had the artists been white.

The documentary maker Ken Burns has an upcoming, epic-looking, series on country music coming soon.

Finally, a really interesting and well-written article on The Quietus, about Darkthrone and Emperor’s massively influential albums released in 1994 – and more importantly how we, and the bands themselves, deal with the sins of their pasts.
