Welcome to the Future: 059: Events, gigs and new release round-up 19-October 2018

Another Friday, another round-up. As always this is a look at upcoming releases, relevant music news and upcoming events and gigs worth spending some of your time at. It is by no means an exhaustive list, and I’m always on the lookout for more to include.

transmission – the amodelofcontrol.com podcast – has resumed the run through of the a-z of industrial, with all episodes here. The latest episode was released recently (transmission: 012), and transmission: 013 will be out soon. I’m currently having some issues with the podcast so please bear with me while I rebuild and get it live again.

You can also get it via RSS, on iTunes, on Stitcher, and is also now available on the new Google Podcasts App (search “amodelofcontrol”).

If you want to submit anything to be included here? E-mail me (You know what to do with that to make it work, right?), comment/message on Facebook at the amodelofcontrol.com page, and over on Twitter (@amodelofcontrol).

New and Upcoming Releases this week

A few notable releases in the past week or so: including John Grant’s fourth solo album Love is Magic, and the unexpected return of Dubstar with One.

Also of note is a Cabaret Voltaire tribute album from Metropolis, marvellously titled Why Kill Time When You Can Cover Cabaret Voltaire.

New tracks this past week or so include the return of Borghesia with Ljubljana spi – the album Proti kapitulaciji is out next week (23-October) – while the excellent post-punk band Ganser have released a new single Pastel, and grind band The Atrocity Exhibit have released The Bitter Aftertaste of Exploitation.

In upcoming release news, The Young Gods are back with a new album in the New Year – interestingly they’ve been working with Alan Moulder. That said, I’ll be surprised if we hear any new material next week at Black Celebration, but you never know…

In addition, new Rammstein material looks finally to be on the horizon, as does two new album from My Bloody Valentine (although I’ll believe the latter when I see it).

Confirmed upcoming releases are the comeback, eponymous new album from Ladytron (15-Feb), and a vinyl re-issue of Fucked-Up Inside, one of the two essential Spiritualized live albums of the past.

Other Things

The new Tomorrow’s Ghosts event at Whitby has a hell of a pair of headliners in April – the Poppies and New Model Army.

On Vice last week – the return to the public eye (ish) of Katie Jane Garside.

Finally, interesting questions, perhaps, around how Spotify is affecting music consumption, and apparently an awful lot of people still “illegally” download music. Perhaps if they put more back-catalogue stuff back online…
