Welcome to the Future: 056: Events, gigs and new release round-up 21-September 2018

Another Friday, another round-up. As always this is a look at upcoming releases, relevant music news and upcoming events and gigs worth spending some of your time at. It is by no means an exhaustive list, and I’m always on the lookout for more to include.

transmission – the amodelofcontrol.com podcast – has resumed the run through of the a-z of industrial, with all episodes here. The latest episode was released last week (transmission: 012), and transmission: 013 will be out in the next couple of weeks.

You can also get it via RSS, on iTunes, on Stitcher, and is also now available on the new Google Podcasts App (search “amodelofcontrol”).

If you want to submit anything to be included here? E-mail me (You know what to do with that to make it work, right?), comment/message on Facebook at the amodelofcontrol.com page, and over on Twitter (@amodelofcontrol).

New and Upcoming Releases this week

Once again a whole host of new releases this week.

Gazelle Twin is back with the apparently deeply political Pastoral, while two alternative veterans return this week. Suede release their third album since regrouping with The Blue Hour, while Therapy? release their fifteenth album (!) Cleave.

Then, the intriguing Freak Dream release their debut Into The Sun (look out for an interview with them on amodelofcontrol.com shortly), I:Scintilla release their first album in nearly a decade (Swayed), Drew McDowall releases The Third Helix, and German industrial/darkwave veterans In Strict Confidence released their new album hate2love this week too.

As well as all that, the mysterious Field Agent is back with Just Breathing Is Torture.

In upcoming releases, Project Pitchfork release Fragment on 25-Oct, and Robyn returns with Honey the following day. Then The Smashing Pumpkins return with Shiny and Oh So Bright, Vol. 1 / LP: No Past. No Future. No Sun. in November, and it appears a new Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds album is in the works

Other Things

That current NIN tour in North America is only a handful of dates in, and already appears to have been something else. Oh for a lottery win!

While sad to hear the death of Huntress lead singer Jill Janus.

For the first time in some years, I actually wanted an artist to win the Mercury Prize last night, and Nadine Shah’s forceful comments on her own work only reinforced it. Wolf Alice won in the end, by the way.

Finally, a cautionary tale, perhaps – heavy metal lunacy in 1978.
