Over last year – to mark twenty years since I began writing about music – I ran a series of posts looking at the music I was buying and listening to in 1996 (and that was released that year), partly to jog my memory and partly to dig into my formative musical influences a bit, too. Playing with yourself. Pleasuring oneself. Wanking. Jerk off. Whack off. Frigging. Self-abuse. Self-pollution. Spank the monkey. Flip the bean. Onanism. etc.

So. Tuesday Ten 250 is quite a milestone to reach, I guess. As well as that, 2016 marks twenty years since I began writing about music, with my first review in ROAR (a publication much-changed nowadays, by the looks of things) in my first weeks as a student in September/October 1996.

So, seven years – almost to the week – since I started this series, the Tuesday Ten hits #200. That’s 200 lengthy posts, and 2,000 artists, songs, albums, venues (hey, the subjects have got around a bit). New songs, old songs, favourites, ones I dislike, even recently music other people love. It was initially started to celebrate the new music I was hearing, so I guess it is appropriate that #200 keeps that tradition up. Read more “Tuesday Ten: 200: Tracks of the Month (March 2014)”
This week – for the first non-month round-up in a while – I’m looking at bands mentioning other bands or artists. Or lots of them in one song, in more than one case. There were quite a few more that I couldn’t include, and I’d be interested to hear other suggestions for this. Read more “Tuesday Ten: 166: Musical References”
During 2011 I bought an awful lot of albums. at least 75, in fact. And so many that some that might have made it in a normal year ended up being missed off this list. So there may well be a “what I overlooked” post at the end of the year, just to ensure that everything I wanted to mention at some point gets included somehow. Still, I’d rather have this problem than have too little to write about… Next week: Gigs of the year. Read more “2011 in Review: Best Albums”
This is the eighth year that I’ve done a rundown of the music released in the past year – and every year I seem to end up with more material to cover. Read more “2011 in review: Best Tracks”
Time for another of my monthly new(ish) track roundups. You know the drill by now, right? Read more “Tuesday Ten: 140: Tracks of the Month (August 2011)”
Let’s say a recent post by a friend (“ten men I find more attractive than Johnny Depp”) has reminded me to go ahead with this week’s Tuesday Ten, a “possible” TT I’ve had on the backburner for a good three months or so. I can’t remember how it originally came about, but the list began to be put together with the assistance of a group of friends during a night in the pub, as I recall. Ok, for the return of the Tuesday Ten for 2010, this week is the first of a pair of posts that are companions of sorts. Both of them will be looking at cover versions, but in specific ways. This week, I’m looking at covers where the originals weren’t necessarily bad, but the cover versions are definitely worse. And next week, I’ll be looking at covers that are better than the originals. Obviously, this is a highly subjective area, so feel free to argue the case if you think I’ve dissed your favourite song. Better still, I’d love to know about any glaring omissions from the list.
