Tuesday Ten: 269: Tracks of the Month (August 1996)

Onto part seven of my 1996 roundup. As a reminder, I’m marking twenty years of writing about music (my writing long pre-dates this website going live) across this year with a monthly look at ten releases from 1996, where possible in chronological order. Tuesday Ten: 268: Notable People in Song

I’ve mentioned before that I have a notes file (saved in multiple locations) that I’ve used since I started this Tuesday Ten series back in 2007. As a result, I have ideas and concepts for lists that have languished half-completed for years, while others get thought of and posted within weeks. I guess it is all about inspiration. Tuesday Ten: 219: Outros

One of the interesting things about writing this series is that occasionally one post (and not necessarily at the time of writing it!) will inspire another, and then will have me wondering how I didn’t think of it before. Read more “Tuesday Ten: 219: Outros”

2014 in review: Best Gigs

This year: 170 bands, 57 days-worth of gigs. Five festivals, three countries, eight cities/towns. From venues holding thousands to those holding tens. Due to personal issues and, frankly, being too damned busy for much of the year, I didn’t get to write about many of them aside from the festivals, so writing this list has really taxed the powers of my memory. 2014 in review: Compilations and re-issues

Finally into December, and I can start the process of seeing the back of 2014. But before it does end, here on amodelofcontrol.com it is time to run down the year in music, with the usual four Tuesday posts that begin with the year’s best compilations and reissues, then onto the best tracks of the year next week, the best albums after that, then finally the best gigs of the year. Tuesday Ten: 196: Sleep

Once again, recently, I’ve been struggling with insomnia, something that judging on some mornings on social networks that quite a few of my friends suffer from too. I go through phases like this – like many, I’m sure, connected to stress or work, or both – and indeed during much of my student days I was not far off nocturnal (the perils of few lectures and late night working as part of the Uni events team, amongst other things), but recently I’ve been worse than in a long while. Tuesday Ten: 146: Short Songs

So, a return to my traditional Tuesday Tens after the end of year break for rounding up 2011. My girlfriend set me a challenge for two Tuesday Tens last week, and it seemed like an interesting idea. So here is the first part of it, and it will likely be the shortest Spotify Playlist I will ever post. Read more “Tuesday Ten: 146: Short Songs”

2011 in review: Best Gigs

During 2011 I saw an awful lot of live sets. At a rough count, around about 125 (including supports and festivals) – and I saw a few bands more than once, in particular Front 242, who I saw four times in four different countries. Like the albums list, a few that might have made it in a normal year ended up being missed off this list. It was a good year for live gigs, and I only saw a few duds. So my quality filter is definitely improving… Read more “2011 in review: Best Gigs”
